ColourPop Super Shock Shadow Swatches!

Swatches 1.PNG

If you’ve been here for any amount of time, you probably noticed I LOVE ColourPop! Their Super Shock Shadows are among my staple beauty products. I swatched my favorites for you so you can see for yourself how beautiful these shadows truly are.

Swatches 2

Above we have some of the lighter shades in the group. I ❤ This is a beautiful shimmery silver shadow (great for a brow highlight). Cheap Date is a true yellow gold color. Hanky Panky is a matte taupe shade that is a great transition color or for a natural “no makeup” look. Blaze is a darker brown shimmer with yellow glitter that shines beautifully. So Quiche is a grey-brown color that has gorgeous purple shimmer within it.

Swatches 3.PNG

Above are some more of the darker shades. First is Nillionaire, which is hands-down my absolute favorite ColorPop shade. It is a brown bronze color with shimmers of red and yellow gold, which are beautiful in different lighting. On The Rocks is a darker bronze brown color with yellow, green, and red glitter. Moonshine is a darker brown color, great for a smoky eye look and has red and green glitter as well. Lace is a deep purple with beautiful purple-toned glitter. Envy is a dark black with gorgeous purple glitter.

The color payoff with these shadows is incredible. The swatches above are one swipe of each color. If you’re looking for a bolder or darker look, you can definitely layer these shadows as well as blend them together to create an amazing look!

Ipsy Glam Bag Unboxing!

Ipsy Bag March

Hey everyone! Have any of you out there been dying to sign up for Ipsy, but you’re not sure it’s worth it? I’ve been an Ipsy subscriber for about 6 months now and I can definitely say some months it’s worth it, and others it isn’t. We’ll get into that a bit more in a minute. I wanted to start by sharing with everyone what I received in my March Ipsy Glam Bag.

Let’s start with the bag itself – each month, Ipsy designs a new look for the glam bag. This month’s bag is a sea foam green background with red roses swirled about. The bags typically go with the season or time of year, so this bag is perfect for spring!

The bags typically arrive in the middle of each month (I believe this depends on the shipping speeds in your region). The bag comes in an adorable fuchsia bubble envelope.

To sign up, it’s super easy – all you need to do is go to ipsy.com and create an account. Then you’ll need to enter your form of payment (it’s only $10 a month!). The next step (and the most important step) is to take the quiz. The quiz is the most important part, because this is how Ipsy decides what products you may like to try based on your interests as well as your skin type, hair color, eye color, and a couple of other details.

Not sure what you’re preferences are or what you might be interested in? No worries! You can retake the quiz at any time as many times as you want! I’ve retaken my quiz 3 times so far, and it’s definitely helped out a bunch! Last month, a lot of the products I received weren’t really my style or interests, so I took my quiz again and ended up with a GREAT bag this month!

This month’s glam bag
In my glam bag this month I received the following products:

ModelCo: LipLacquer in Morocco now, I’ve never heard of this brand before, and prior to this, I always said on the quiz I wasn’t interested in lip glosses. This is actually a really great gloss, but it is a bit sticky.

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics: Heat wave Baked Bronzer this is a pretty good bronzer (and I do love a good bronzer) it reminds me a lot of the e.l.f. brand baked bronzer. It’s a good one and the “sample size” is a full-sized bronzer pallet.

Aphrodite Olive Oil Eye Cream: Anti-ageing & Hydrating this would be my least favorite item this month. I’m not a huge fan of facial creams like this, but I tend to receive at least one cream product each month so I guess this is it for this month.

Illamasqua: Precision Ink eye liner I LOVE this liquid eye liner. This again, is a brand I’ve never really heard of but it’s also manufactured in London. The applicator is a felt tip, so you’re able to get that precision eye liner look you’re going for (I guess, hence the name). You do have to shake the product well before using. The sample is a full-sized product.

Essence: Make Me Brow eyebrow gel mascara I love a good brow product! This is a great little brow product. The mascara is very light and not cakey, it goes on smoothly and doesn’t clump. The only issue I had with this was that Ipsy sent me taupe instead of brown, so it doesn’t really quite work wonderfully with my hair color, but it’s manageable! The tube is actually a full-sized tube that you would get in a store as well.

That’s it! 5 samples and I’m happy until next month! After you receive your glam bag and try out your products, it’s important to go review each of the products. This is also a key way to ensure Ipsy gets you the types of products in the colors you like each month. You also earn Points for reviewing which can be collected and used towards a free product. I have been saving my points, so I haven’t yet used them, but I will definitely update once I do! I also believe they expire, but I’m not sure how long that takes (mine haven’t yet and it’s been 6 months :)).

Have you tried Ipsy? How does it compare to other monthly subscription boxes? I’d love to know!

February Favorites!

Februrary Favorites

Hey there! This month is going so fast – good thing we get an extra day this year! Today I wanted to share with you all of my favorite beauty products this month. So, we’ll go through my day and I’ll tell you all about the products I’m currently using and the one’s I’m loving enough to continue in my beauty routine long-term.

I am not a morning person, so I like to look for anything and everything that makes my morning as simple and painless as possible. These products below are doing the trick!

Crest Pro Health

Teeth/Mouth: I’m not one of those people who chooses a toothpaste and then sticks to it for the rest of my life. Nope, I switch it up all the time unless I find one I’m really loving and then I’ll stick with it for a couple tubes. Right now (and for the last couple of months) I’ve been using Crest Pro-Health Advanced Clinical Gum Protection Toothpaste. I love this toothpaste because I feel like it truly works. The Pro-Health line from Crest has been a go-to of mine for quite a while because these products provide so many benefits and cover so much ground in mouth-cleaning that it’s hard for me to not keep buying them. I’ve also been using the mouthwash that I guess goes with it – the Crest Pro-Health Tartar Protection with Fluoride Anticavity Rinse (the name is a mouthful!). These mouthwashes are great because they don’t burn after 3 seconds like other brands I’ve used do (like Listerine), yet I still feel like it’s working and killing all of the disgusting mouth germs!

Garnier Fructis Micellar Water

Face: I have a love/hate relationship with most face products – I find one I like and then over time it seems like it’s not as effective, or my face randomly decides it doesn’t like it anymore. My cleanser I’m currently using and loving is the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser and Makeup Remover & Cleanser. This is a new product from Garnier Fructis. It’s so amazingly simple to use (which as I mentioned, I’m all about!). All you have to do is shake it up, and pour it a little  bit on a cotton pad and swipe it all over your face – you’d be amazed at the amount of makeup your makeup remover pads leave behind! I use the one that removes even waterproof mascara.

Hair Products

Hair: As I do with my toothpaste, I also switch my shampoo/conditioners up quite often! I also don’t use the same shampoo every day. I have thin curly hair and it’s so easy for it to get damaged, so I try to do everything I can to keep it healthy! I am currently loving Just Natural Hair Care Shampoo for Hair Loss – it’s a bit pricey, but you don’t use it every day and it makes your hair super healthy and shiny. The best part is it’s all natural and it also contains essential oils, which makes it even more incredible. I am also loving OGX Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen shampoo. This is another great organic shampoo that adds lots of volume and great vitamins to your hair. For conditioner I’m using another OGX product, Moisture Plus Vitamin B5 conditioner. This conditioner smells amazing and I just love how soft it makes my hair.

I also straighten my hair on an almost daily basis, so I do my best to not damage my hair with all the heat. I’ve been loving Garnier Fructis’ Sleek and Shine Sleek Primer Style Prep. I dry my hair with my hair dryer and then spray this product in before I use my flat iron to straighten it. I feel like not only does it add a layer of protection from the heat, but it also definitely helps with keeping my curls straight and sleek all day long.

Eye Products.PNG

Makeup: For foundation, I’ve been loving my Mary Kay Endless Performance Creme-to-Powder Foundation Foundation. This is a medium to full-coverage foundation and it’s totally buildable. Of course, if you’ve read any of my recent posts, you already know that I’m totally obsessing over ColourPop products at the moment, so my current eye products consist of their SuperShock Eye Shadows – Nillionaire is my current favorite. The eye liner I’ve been loving is Rimmel London’s Auto Waterproof Eye Definer in Noir. I love this eye liner because it’s waterproof, so it doesn’t wear off your waterline like other liners do, and it goes on super smooth. For Mascara, again, if you read my Top 5 Mascara post (link to post here) you already know that I am in love with Maybelline Lash Sensational. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a February favorite as much as an all-time favorite, but still I just love it so much I added it in here anyhow. For my bronzer I am loving Pur Minerals Mineral Glow. This is a pressed powder bronzer and it is super pigmented and has just the right amount of shimmer. My highlighter, I just received in my last ColourPop haul (link to post here) it’s a SuperShock face in Smoke N Whistles. It’s a dreamy creamy little pot of shimmer and highlight that sets like magic and lasts all day.

CO Bigelow night balm

Lips: Aside from my love of all things ColourPop lippie product at the moment, my nightly lip regimen this past month has consisted of C.O. Bigelow Lip Treatment in My Favorite Night Balm. This product is great. I put it on at night and go to sleep and when I wake up in the morning, my lips feel renewed and refreshed.

True Blue Spa Cashmere and silk

Hands: Each night I use True Blue Spa’s Shea Cashmere & Silk Hand Cream. It smells like baby powder and lightly like vanilla – I guess like Cashmere? But the way it makes your hands feel is incredible! I don’t know about you, but in the winter my hands get super dry and no one wants old lady hands, so get some cream on those bad boys! I recommend using this one :).

So, that’s it! Those are my top picks for this month.

Top Drugstore Eyebrow Products!

Top Drugstore Eyebrow Products.JPG

Hi everyone! Today it’s all about the brows here at A Glitter Girl’s Diary! Finding just the right eyebrow product can be difficult. I’ve sure tried my fair share of brow products and there are a few that I’ve come to like the best. So, keep reading to find out my picks for the top drugstore brow products.

PIXI by Petra: Mini Brow Trio in Shades of Brow. This is a great product for someone who may be just starting out with experimenting with brow products. The Mini Brow Trio is a small compact with 3 different shades that include a dark shade, a lighter shade, and a highlight shade. This is a powder product. It does not include a brush for application, but I like to use a small shadow brush to apply. I like that I can mix the two darker shades together to create just the right color for my brows and it includes the highlight shade for under the brow. It’s also not too expensive – it retails for about $6 and you can get it at Target.

e.l.f.: Eyebrow Kit in Medium. This product is one of my absolute favorites. As always with e.l.f. products, they are so incredibly affordable ($3 dollars at Target or Walmart). This Eyebrow Kit is another compact kit. It includes a double sided talkon brush that fits inside the compact. It’s a great little brush, one side is angled to define the arch and shape the brow, and the other end can be used to fill in the brow. The compact comes with two different products, a pigmented wax and a setting powder. There is even a little mirror in case you’re doing your brows on the go!

NYX: Auto Eyebrow Pencil in Medium Brown. This is a pencil product that goes on super smooth and is shaped perfectly for defining the brows. The color is super pigmented and it’s one of the best I’ve used as far as color richness. It’s a twist up pencil, so no sharpeners needed. The other end of the pencil has a built in brush that can be used to blend in the color and shape the brows the way you want. This product was around $5 at Target.

NYX: Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe. I love this product because it is very similar to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, which retails for about $21. I got my NYX Micro Brow pencil at Target for around $10. This is another twist up pencil. The tip of the pencil is super tiny and it’s great if you’re looking to draw in some extra hair lines and get a more precise fill. The other end of the pencil has a capped micro wand that allows you to blend the product into your brows and shape them as well.

Hard Candy: Brow Ink in Medium Dark. This product is much different from the others I have listed. It’s basically like mascara for your brows. This is a waterproof formula that lasts for up to 24 hours. It comes in a tube just like mascara with a tiny micro wand applicator. The formula is smooth and is actually just link ink – as the name suggests. If you’re looking to shape your brows and add some darker color, but not necessarily fill them in, then I highly recommend this product. You can get this for about $6 at Walmart.

N.Y.C.: Brow and Eyeliner Pencil in 902 Dark Brown. This product is my staple go-to OG brow product. I feel like I always come back to this and it’s a classic that I just love. This is a traditional pencil (that you need to sharpen). It comes in a pack of two and it’s NYC, so it’s incredibly inexpensive – I’m talking like $2 at most drug stores. I love this pencil, because I feel like it is great at filling in my brows, it isn’t waxy, and it looks total natural. For me, personally, the color of this pencil is identical to my hair color and blends so naturally it’s amazing.

So, that’s it! There are so many brow products on the market, I definitely continue to try new ones all the time. What drug store brow products do you love?

Matte Lips Trend – ColourPop Review

ColourPop Matte Lip

Anyone else super into the matte lip trend? I know I am and I have been on a quest to find a perfect (and affordable) liquid matte lipstick. I’ve searched high and low and have spent many nights watching YouTube reviews and reading blog posts about which are the best matte lip products.

I know that tons of people are super into Kylie Jenner’s lip look and I have to agree, I think it is fantastic. I am also really into the nude/bare lip look as well.

After weeks of searching, I decided to try one. I had been seeing TONS of reviews and swatches for ColourPop’s Ultra Matte Lip. ColourPop is a relatively new start up company based out of Los Angeles. They have a huge selection of colors to choose from in the collection. Want to know one of the best things about these? They are only $6!!

Since I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect nude shade for my skin tone, I decided to play it safe and start with one of their beautiful nudes, Midi. I ordered it from their website, and if you register for Colourop’s mailing list, you can receive $5 off your first order. So, technically, you’re paying $1 plus any shipping and handling for a whole tube of lipstick! I mean, who can say no to that?

The formula is a super liquid-y wet formula. The lipstick itself seems thin when you apply it to your lips, but you’ll quickly notice that you only need one coat of this lipstick to get the pigmentation you’re looking for. These are highly pigmented, which is shocking since they’re only $6. The drying time is also super impressive, because I hate sitting around waiting for my lips to dry and turn matte, this liquid lip literally dried to a completely matte finish in under a minute.

As far as wearability goes, these are definitely long-wear lipsticks. I wouldn’t say they will last all day, but they’ll definitely last all morning, and you may need a touch up after lunch, and then again after dinner. They do stay on when eating, but you’ll definitely notice that they do rub off towards the inside of your lips. For the price, I’m okay with that – others may not be, but it all depends on what you prefer.

One thing to mention as a possible negative for some people, is these are super drying. So, if you’re someone who likes a moisturized feel all day, you’re not going to get that with this. I personally don’t mind it though, because I realize that I’m asking for a lipstick to dry completely matte and last like forever, so obviously it needs to adhere itself to my lips in order to do that. I have tried to use a lip balm or a Chapstick under the liquid lip before applying it, but the formula doesn’t dry completely, and it stays slightly sticky.

I loved Midi so much, that I decided to order a second color, Trap. Trap is a super unique color (still on the nude side of things) it dries to an almost gray-ish purple color. It’s truly beautiful. I will admit it is a bit dramatic for me, but I still wear it :).

I also just recently ordered Highball, which is a pinkish-red color, and Bad Habit, which is a dark cranberry.  I’ll update once I get them!

Update: I received Highball and Bad Habit. Both colors are absolutely amazing! Highball is definitely a bright bright pink. It definitely looks brighter in person than it did through my computer and phone screens. If you’re looking for a bright almost neon pink color for spring or summer, this is definitely a color I’d recommend.

As for Bad Habit, this was a last minute add on purchase – I happened to see it as I was about to check out and it looked beautiful in all of the swatches I looked at. This color is a newer color to ColourPop. It is a dark cranberry red color and it is extremely pigmented. I also believe this is in ColourPop’s new formula, which seems to be more hydrating than some of their older formulas, like Midi. Bad Habit is definitely a great fall or winter color!

Anyone else try these ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip lipsticks? Let me know! I’d love to hear what colors are your favorites!

Top 5 Mascaras!

top-5-mascaras
Hi All! Today I want to talk about what makeup item you can’t live without. For me, if I only had to choose one makeup item to use for the rest of my life – I would have to choose mascara. There isn’t a day I have left the house without it since I was 13 and first started wearing makeup. There’s just something about having on some mascara that makes me feel “put together” even if I may be sick or feeling sad. Amping up my lashes makes a girl feel good, ya know? Even if your go-to item isn’t a tube of mascara, I know you can relate on some level with your own fave product.

However, I’m one of those people who is always on the quest for finding that next new thing in anything makeup related. I’m most definitely not one of those people who just chooses a brand and decides to stick with it for ever and ever (bor-ring!). No offense if you’re that person, in fact, I applaud you and your dedication :). However, I’m a true believer in experimenting and testing new product.

That being said, my love for mascaras over the years has resulted in me trying a multitude of different mascara brands and formulas. I’ve come to love and not-love many a mascara over time. If you’re looking for a new mascara or you’ve never really had any luck in the past but are looking to add mascara to your daily beauty routine, below are my top 5 mascaras.

Mascara

#5: Smashbox’s Full Exposure mascara. This is a newbie – they just recently released this formula, but I already think it’s great! The formula is designed to be a lengthening mascara and works like a fiber mascara. To get the best result, I definitely recommend layering this bad boy on. I already have some pretty long lashes to begin with, so I typically use this mascara if I’m looking for more of a natural look rather than my typical volume adding mascaras. The formula is also quite light weight, so it isn’t heavy on your lashes either. The packaging is a black tube and has an old-school wiry bristle applicator/brush.

#4: Pur’s Big Blink mascara. Unfortunately, I believe this formula has been discontinued, but I still have a half-used tube that I continue to use from time to time. This formula has Argon Oil in it, so it’s super great for your lashes! Who doesn’t want to show their lashes some special lovin’? The packaging is a white tube with a gold cap. The brush on this little guy is interesting though – the plastic bristles are short, blunt, little nubs, but yet this product provides some great length and some slight volume. If I were to compare this formula to some other lengthening or volumizing mascaras, I would say it’s good as far as quality goes, but if you’re looking for some big volume, then this isn’t the product for you. The product also stays on well all day and doesn’t flake or fall.

#3: Maybelline’s Great Lash® Lots of Lashes™ mascara. I feel the Maybelline “Great Lash” has been around forever and is just basically a staple in most girls’ glam bags. However, I’ve listed this at number 3 only because I have found others that I have come to love more than this. The packaging is the same as it’s been for all of time (at least ever since I can remember, so for the sake of this post, that’s “all of time”) the pink and green tube. This formula is a bit thinner than other mascaras, which means that it isn’t going to give you that big volume that some other formulas may. However, the interestingly shaped brush (sort of looks like a cone) and long skinny bristles definitely help define each lash and when applied properly, can help curl up the outer edges of your lashes gifting to you some lovely length. The only negative with this formula I’ve found is that it tends to flake if you apply too much, so just make sure you aren’t over-doing it or you’ll have little black specks on your cheeks!

#2: Loreal Paris’ Voluminous® Million Lashes™ mascara. This mascara is still in my makeup bag and I still tend to revert back to this mascara every now and again. There are two main reasons that I love this mascara. First of all, it is a very buildable mascara that adds a ton of volume (I’m a lover of lashes with volume!). Second of all, this formula doesn’t clump and doesn’t flake. Win – Win! The packaging is a gold tube with what Loreal refers to as the Millionizer Brush, which separates each lash like a dream. The tip of the applicator is a plastic tip with the little spikes (you know what I’m talking about here) and it’s a nice sturdy brush (not bendy like some other brands).

#1: Maybelline’s Lash Sensational mascara. This mascara is currently my all-time favorite mascara and is the mascara I currently use every day. The formula is created to reveal layers of lashes and makes your lashes look fuller and thicker. The tube is a pearly pink/purple color and it comes with a curved wand and a plastic-spike tip applicator. The curve of the applicator helps to define your top lashes and does an incredible job at making my lashes look long, full, and almost as if I was wearing falsies! The formula lasts all day and doesn’t flake – it’s truly my all-time favorite mascara.

Edit: When I initially wrote this post, I was absolutely in love with Maybeline’s Lash Sensational, as I said above. However, since I’m always on a quest for amazing mascara, I found a new #1! I’ve recently fallen in LOVE with Tarte’s Tarteist Lash Paint mascara. This formula is a volumizing formula that will make your lashes look absolutely amazing. I think one of the things I love the most about this is the applicator. It has a soft bristle brush that is soft yet firm enough to curl lashes upward. This is another formula, that just like the Lash Sensational, wears beautifully all day long and doesn’t flake!

Have a mascara you’re absolutely in love with that I didn’t mention here? Let me know down in the comments! I’d love to try it out!
